27 December 2013

Caracas | part 1 |

My ragazzo & I lived in the same city for a year.
Since the day he parted we both day dream about the
next time we'll get to be together again.

After surprisingly no painful parent convincing
we had a set date and flight, 27th of December I would be
on my way back to South America for the second time this year -- however
for a very different reason.

I was extremely anxious in the most wonderful way to greet a new year and meet a new family.
I felt all brave and what-not since, well I was on my way to one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world* !

All else aside, an exciting thought to be back in my boys arms.

(I unfortunately lost my photos from the first day)
But more photos from this magical place soon!

glitter filled baby's breath december!

I wanted to wish all your lovely selves
a glitter and love filled Merry Christmas / Joyeux Noël / Buon Natale/ etc!
December (so far) has treated me extremely well.
There have been so many things going on and many more to come!
My 24th was spent with my mum and sis by the beach this year (oh fl)
sippin' Italian Sanpellegrino and stuffing my belly with corn casserole!!!
The 25th, Ruby and her fam invited me over for a "venezuelan christmas dinner"
hallacas & all! A perfect sneak preview of my forthcoming trip!

And well to you who don't celebrate! Wishing you a wonderful last days of the year!

Convention Center - Art Basel Miami Beach - Part II

Once I step into the Convention Center, my mind goes into a state of solitude (the best one at that). The way the Center is structured is what has made me come back year after year, I think. Walking around in circles and turning into something unexpected is exciting (although, sometimes frustrating since you might of missed a thing or two).

Francesca Pasquali - White straws, 2012
White Italian Monochrome / Tornabuoni Art Paris
One of my main goals is to obviously find some of my personal favorite works.

It's definitely fun to think that you
might bump into celebrities or even the artists themselves
but my eye contact seems to always be focused on...well, the art.

Don't get me wrong, even the attendee's are part of the show & that's what
makes Art Basel such a vibrant event.

Fausto Melotti - Virgulto, 1901-1986
Barbara Mathes Gallery New York

Wolfgang Tillmans
It was my first time spending almost the entire day at the Convention Center.
From opening till I couldn't feel my feet any longer...
I even went out to eat and came back (!!)

Alexander Calder, Huit Rondelles Rouges, 1971
Fausto Melotti - La danza, 1972
Barbara Mathes Gallery New York
Piet Mondrian, Composition II, with Red, 1926

Michelangelo Pistoletto, Black and Light, 1976
Tracey Emin, The Last Great Adventure is you, 2013

Retna, He's A Criminal No Different From Me.
One Could Argue I could Be Painted With The Same Brush, 2013
(this one's for you hans)

Ran into this wonderful crystal doorstop once I left the Center.

Chose to go comfy this year (sans heels, unlike last year)

N A D A - Art Basel Miami Beach - Part I

December always brings great fun. As you may know, South Florida hasn't always been my cup of tea -- I've grown to love it as the home it's been to me, buuut I'll leave that for another post. This does, however, change when Art Basel rolls around! This year I celebrated my 6th year of Art B and I couldn't be more happy about it (!!!).

I changed it up a bit this year and attended the NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) galleries, where the focus is on contemporary art. I was fortunate enough to attend with the father of one of the artists whose work had already sold by the time I got there (fortunately enough the gallery does keep the work on display even after they've sold, just slightly more hidden).

Although I did keep to myself as least awkwardly as possible knowing that I was somewhat of an unwanted foreigner, I let go of that idea and became a sponge.

Listening and absorbing everything I learned from buyers and gallery owners; a pretty great way to start my Basel experience if you ask me!

Flâneurette

"To be away from home and yet to feel oneself everywhere at home; to see the world, to be at the centre of the world, and yet to remain hidden from the world—impartial natures which the tongue can but clumsily define. The spectator is a prince who everywhere rejoices in his incognito."
Charles Baudelaire — The Painter of Modern Life and Other Essays
